Overview
Despite promises to support survivors of modern slavery earlier and for longer, Rishi Sunak’s Government has now u-turned. As far back as 2017, the Government promised a ‘Places of Safety’ scheme which could have provided shelter and advice for survivors in the days after exploitation.
This promise has been scrapped, leaving survivors without guaranteed support or safeguarding in the hours and days after reporting modern slavery. In 2021, survivors were also promised a minimum of 12 months’ support if needed. However, the promise of longer support has now been scrapped too, leaving survivors of modern slavery
with only 30 days’ support before being expected to move on.
Help us take action by sharing the MP action and using the below digital and printed assets. Email us if you’d like to get more involved with community organising
Poster: Take action
Sharing this poster in coffee shops, places of worship, or anywhere else likely to draw in big crowds helps us spread the word. You can print these yourself on a home printer (in A3, A4 or A5), or email info@afterexploitation.org to order a pack of 5 or 10.
Leaflet: Explainer on survivor support
Most people assume that survivors of modern slavery must have immediate access to medical intervention, specialist counselling and safe housing. Sadly, this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Sharing this simple explainer is a first step in raising awareness around the lack of support currently on offer to a majority of modern slavery survivors.
Graphics cards
Use these to share an image or post on social media channels. The image alone helps us spread awareness, but coupling this with a link to our campaign action (https://afterexploitation.eaction.org.uk/keepyourpromise) goes even further.

Instagram story template
If you can, sharing the MP action as a link on your story makes it even easier for people to take action! (https://afterexploitation.eaction.org.uk/keepyourpromise)

Community action: Petition sheet
As we gather signatures for the MP action, it is vital that we show individual MPs that voters do not want to support a party that turns its back on survivors of exploitation. Why not download this petition pack and gather the signatures of people in your community? Once you have gathered these, please email a screenshot, photo or scan of the signatures to info@afterexploitation.org. A copy of our privacy policy is here.
