Paid opportunity – Research support (experts by experience only)

DEADLINE: Sunday 12th September 2023

About the project

In order to create evidence-based modern slavery policy, giving survivors the best chance of recovery, that evidence must first be available. We are aiming to pinpoint where public-facing modern slavery data could better be accessed and used by people drawing on this evidence as part of their day-to-day work. This means analysing the interview transcripts of a wide variety of professionals, including Parliamentarians, advocates, researchers, community workers and journalists.

As part of this work, we are identifying common challenges in accessing modern slavery data and evidence, and developing recommendations for both ourselves and Government agencies to follow. The most pressing themes will also inform the key issues we campaign on.

About the role

We need five researchers with lived experience of trafficking, modern slavery or exploitation to support us by looking over interview transcripts and picking out relevant themes that should inform our work and campaigns. The exercise will be done between 15th – 17th September at your own pace, before an online workshop on the 18th where we will discuss the themes with others. On October 3rd, we will send you a follow up exercise, to share feedback on our final findings and let us know if we have not included any themes prominent in the workshop. You will be paid £336 for three days’ work.

This work will take three days:

  • 1 day – Analysing interview text and picking out key themes
  • 1 day – Attending a workshop to discuss key themes and support us to develop our campaign priorities around data transparency and misinformation. The online workshop is on Monday 18th September, 10am-4pm. Availability for the workshop is essential.
  • 1 day – Provide your written feedback, answering seven questions, on the finalised strategy which we will give you on October 3rd. You will have until October 15th to provide the feedback.

Expenses

£336 for three days’ work, paid via BACS* or as a high street voucher.

Please note that if you wish to attend the report launch event (date in November, to be confirmed) we will provide expenses for this including travel and accommodation in London. Further details on paid speaking opportunities at the event will be shared in October.
